Donovan McNabb Set to Officially Retire as an Eagle
Congratulations to MAXX client Donovan McNabb on his official retirement as an Eagle, taking place today. The Philadelphia Eagles also announced that they will retire Donovan's No. 5 jersey. Via USA Today:
Donovan McNabb, easily the best quarterback in Eagles history, will formally announce his retirement as an Eagle during a press conference Monday morning.
McNabb played for the Eagles for 11 seasons, from 1999 as the second overall pick in the NFL draft until he was traded to the Washington Redskins in April, 2010.
He is the team's all-time leader in every major passing category, including attempts (4,746), completions (2,801), yards (32,873), and touchdowns (216). He led the team to 91 regular season and nine playoff wins over his 11-year stint in Philadelphia. His 3,469 career rushing yards rank sixth all-time among NFL quarterbacks.
McNabb led the Eagles to five NFC Championship games (winning one) and the Super Bowl in 2005, which the Eagles lost. But that 2004-05 season was McNabb's best in the NFL. With Terrell Owens as the wide receiver, McNabb threw for 3,875 yards that season, with 31 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.
He finished out his career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2011. The Eagles have yet to announce when he will be honored with a ceremony this fall, perhaps against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 19 when Andy Reid, McNabb's coach through his tenure in Philadelphia, makes his return.
