Jen Royle Joins Baltimore Baseball Tonight on 105.7FM The Fan

Over past few weeks Jen Royle has been thinking long and hard about her future. Then this past week she and MASN parted ways so that she could focus her attention on being part of a new show on 105.7FM The Fan.

Royle on her new role: “Not continuing with MASN was a very tough decision,  however being part our new Baltimore Baseball Tonight program was my main priority. I will be doing interviews with both the Orioles as well as players from the visiting teams and so for me this is a dream come true.”

“Baltimore Baseball Tonight” once the season begins next week the show will air Monday through Friday 6pm - 7:15pm on WJZ-FM.

Royle will join the host of the show  popular Baltimore sports personality and radio veteran Bob Haynie,  Jim Duquette and former Oriole Joe Orsulak. For games with an 8:05pm first pitch, the show begins at 7pm. The station also plans a post game show hosted by veteran Steve Melewski.

Away games will broadcast from our CBS Studios.  Home games will be live from Pickles Pub directly across from Camden Yards.

Royle on the Baltimore fans"I love Baltimore and I’ve definitely gotten comfortable here. And I absolutely love co-hosting the Ravens pregame show outside of M&T Bank Stadium because I get to meet the fans and I feed off their energy. I can't tell you how excited I am to do the same for the Orioles at Pickles Pub.”

Royle on her radio teammates:”Jim Duquette and I covered the 2009 World Series together for Sirius-XM so I already know we'll work well together and I've enjoyed working with Bob Haynie at CBS he is such a true pro. Then you add Joe Orsulak's knowledge of the game, and that is a wonderful team."

The new show on 105.7FM The Fan should be great fun and there is plenty of talent to make it entertaining.

That said we will be giving the gang at WBAL 1090AM equal time as they will be airing official Orioles pre and post game shows as the flagship station for Birds Baseball.

The Orioles are allowing their players and management to be on WBAL on AM because of course they are the team’s Flagship radio station. Also because of the MASN on WJZ deal they have designated 105.7FM The Fan as their exclusive FM home. That means players and management will also be heard on their list of programs The Ed Norris Show with Steve Davis, The Mark Viviano Show with The Bull Dog, The  Bob Haynie Show and the afternoon drive time The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn all have access to live interviews.

Team representatives have told me that all radio and TV will have access to the players at the ball park and can tape as many players interviews both pre and post game as the wish. However WBAL and WJZ-FM have to be protected because of the investment in broadcast rights.

Kudos go to those who have been working hard.

Thus far it seems to be working out fine as FOX 1370AM talent roster of Rob Long, Jerry Coleman and Stan Charles have done a fine job of covering spring training. The same can be said of WNST-AM who has also been very active during the spring landing plenty of good Orioles content.

The Orioles are part of a growing list of teams that protect the investment of their broadcast partners. Meanwhile, they allow plenty of access to those who truly want to cover the team. In all fairness I have been on both sides of this issue and as long as freedom of access is granted to everyone both before and after the game it is a fair deal for all and protects those who pay the bills.

This after all is business and we can’t forget that.
