The Man Repeller saves Valentine's Day with the help of Rachel Roy

Yesterday on RachelRoy.com, Leandra Medine was featured in several hilarious videos in which the fashion blogger used her man repelling skills to make-over several women in need of a Valentine's Day fix.  Harper's Bazaar interviewed Rachel and Leandra on the collaboration - take a look!

And be sure to watch all three videos here.

This Valentine's Day, why not give up all pretense and just lounge in a turban and some gam-erasing harem pants? That's Rachel Roy's suggestion for the holiday. Roy has teamed up with blogger Leandra Medine, AKA the Man Repeller, for a series of videos in which they re-style girls in true opposite-sex-horrifying fashion. You can watch one of the clips above; see the rest of the videos (and shop the looks) on RachelRoy.com. Rachel and Leandra were kind enough to answer our questions about their collaboration.

How did you two meet and decide to produce this video series?

Rachel: I have been following Leandra’s blog for a while now — so witty, clever and empowering. She’s also great at layering and print mixing which is something I always use in our styling for RACHEL Rachel Roy, so working together seemed natural — it also helps that I have the exact same point of view as her on most fashion related issues.

Leandra: I thought this would be an interesting feat for me; RACHEL Rachel Roy seems much more a brand about celebrating the female body with tasteful silhouettes whereas I stand for a different type of celebration…one garbage bag-induced. To be able to turn the RRR separates into man repelling garb was a big accomplishment for me!

Rachel, do you subscribe to the Man Repelling philosophy?

Rachel: Dressing for yourself and not a man is definitely something I advocate. You should always feel confident in everything you wear, no matter what trend you fit or don’t fit into. I tell girls all the time that the men that have fallen in love with me, have all fallen during a man repeller stage...funny how life works out like that.

What are your top three man repelling items for spring?

Rachel: Floral printed jackets and blazers, open-toe booties with socks and anything with mixed prints…but truly it is just a state of mind. Once you are there mentally the freedom comes to play and take risks with your clothing choices.

Since you are giving out Valentine’s day style tips in the videos, can you tell us your V-Day plans (and planned outfits, if you know?)

Rachel: This year Valentine’s Day is the day before my Fall 2011 Collection presentation, so I am hoping to get out of the office before midnight! When you have children love is always there in the best form. Everything else is the cherry on top — the freedom to choose is the best gift of all.

Leandra: A date at Fred’s followed by shopping the 4th floor at Barneys with a man who has never disappointed me: Simon Doonan. And I think this year I’ll dress up as a big fat red heart. You know, because I love life.
